9th BenBedPhar Scientific Conference | 20-21 February | Rome

The European COST Action CA20121, “Bench to Bedside Transition for Pharmacological Regulation of NRF2 in Non-Communicable Diseases (BenBedPhar),” hosted its 9th scientific meeting on 20–21 February 2025 at Sapienza University in Rome. Centered on the theme “Unlocking NRF2 Research for Future Clinical Therapies,” the event aimed to strengthen collaborations between NRF2 experts and biopharmaceutical companies.

As Chair of Working Group 3 (Translational Medicine), Christina played an active role in the sessions, highlighting the group’s progress over the past year in meeting key deliverables. WG3 aims to enhance the clinical translation of NRF2 research by compiling data on variants within NFE2L2 - the gene encoding NRF2 - and exploring their associations with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including respiratory tract conditions. The group also built on previously published research of NRF2 tissue biomarkers (Morgenstern et al., 2024; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.redox.2024.103134), and assessing their suitability as a systemic readout of NRF2 activity in various NCDs.

In addition to the informative talks and lively discussions, attendees enjoyed social activities such as a joint Italian dinner, making the meeting both productive and memorable.
